Alwaleed Philanthropies is implementing an urban development initiative in the Asir region that reflects the area’s identity and helps preserve its architectural heritage. This project is part of the Qimam wa Shiyam strategy launched by the Asir Development Authority.

The project aims to:

  • Provide sustainable housing solutions using local resources.
  • Train locals in modern and traditional building techniques.
  • Reduce construction costs by leveraging local resources.
  • Empower youth by providing employment opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of the local economy.

This initiative will run until 2024 and will deliver 100 housing units to benefit residents of the region.

Exploring Cultural Heritage: Crafts Discovery in 2023

In 2023, field visits were conducted to key cultural and historical sites including the Nasb neighborhood, the historic mosque, and the Basateh neighborhood. During these visits, 25 beneficiaries were identified in the Nasb neighborhood and 60 in Basateh. The Abu Serah Palaces were also visited, where traditional crafts and local artisans were documented.
